Sleep Apnea Treatment in Yuma
Are you snoring, choking, or gasping while you sleep? If you are, this could mean you have sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea is a common disorder that causes patients to experience pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while they sleep. Sleep apnea can disrupt your sleep and lead to serious health problems if left untreated. When your breathing pauses, you often move out of a deep sleep and into a light sleep.
Sleep apnea can keep patients from achieving the deep sleep state they need to feel fully rested. The sleep disorder can also cause other problems due to oxygen deprivation.
We would like to help you with your sleep apnea. Dr. Hulme can treat your sleep apnea using appliances that are comfortable and easy-to-wear. These appliances work best with mild to moderate sleep apnea.
People with sleep apnea are never fully rested because they don’t get a full night’s sleep. Their airways tend to narrow as they sleep, and air struggles to get through. Snoring will occur when air is forced through an obstructed passage.
Our oral appliances are designed to position the lower jaw slightly forward and down to promote better airflow. After your tongue and jaw are repositioned, your airway will have an easier time staying open. Dr. Hulme will shape the device to fit your mouth. These devices are simple, portable, and silent.
At-Home Sleep Studies for Snoring and Sleep Apnea in Fortuna Foothills Patients
If you suspect your sleep patterns may be affected by sleep apnea, Dr. Mann can offer an at-home sleep study to find out if you have sleep apnea. This convenient and easy at-home sleep apnea test is designed to collect information about the way you sleep.
On the day of your test, it’s best if you remember the following:
- Try to follow your regular routine as much as possible.
- Avoid napping.
- Eliminate your use of caffeine after lunch.
On the night of your test, you can go to sleep at your regular bedtime. First you will attach the sensors to your body as instructed. Then you will press a button on the machine when you get into bed.
When you wake up in the morning, you can remove the sensors. After your test, you can return the device to Dr. Hulme’s office. Your at-home test will then be scored and interpreted based on the information collected.
